Cheers to the New Year! π
Yesterday, I spent the day in the garden. I have heard that what you do on the first day of the year, you will do all year. This bodes well for me – I love working in my garden, especially when I have a specific project in mind!
Yesterdayβs main project was to pull dock weeds out of the strawberry patch and mulch any bare/newly weeded areas. Docks are poisonous to dogs and alpacas and may also be harmful for chickens, so our goal is to eradicate them from the property if possible. They are pretty hardy – they have come back after a hard freeze and if you pull them out but donβt get enough of the root, they will grow back. Once they go to seed, itβs easy for the seeds to spread to other areas which is something weβd like to prevent.
Swipe through for a before and after of the Strawberry Patch! π My next step will be to divide some of the strawberries and move them where they will be less crowded.
How did you spend New Yearβs Day? Do you have special New Yearβs traditions?
