Crab apples…
If there’s space for just one tree in your garden, we’re making a plea for it to be a crab apple. A ‘Red Sentinel’ crab apple tree will be festooned with deep pink buds in the spring, opening to a flurry of scented white blooms and followed by a heavy crop of glossy fruit, which will hang like cherries and remain on the tree long after leaf fall. They can be sour eaten raw, but try cooking them in sugar and making crab apple jelly.
